These mountains are home to three of the world’s eight “hottest biodiversity hotspots,” according to the WWF. Even though the Himalayan mountains are home to diverse plants and animals, their ecosystem is in danger due to human disturbances.

Environmental crimes, like illegal mining and tree felling, have become a serious problem in Uttarakhand. An official report by the National Crime Records Bureau has revealed that Uttarakhand tops among the Himalayan states in the country in the number of cases of environmental crimes. The NCRB report states that the state of Uttarakhand has recorded a maximum number of 912, cases of environmental crimes in the country,
